Dutch ELLE and Harper’s Bazaar win award for fur-free statement

6 OCTOBER 2017, AMSTERDAM – This week, Dutch magazines ELLE and Harper’s Bazaar won the House of Animals Award for their joint fur-free statement. The two iconic fashion magazines announced to exclude fur from their articles and to minimise the presence of fur in the advertisements featured in their magazines. The award gala, that was organised by the online news platform Animals Today, praises media productions for putting a spotlight on animal protection issues. A large number of Dutch celebrities visited the ceremony, that was held on world animal day, to show their support for animals.

In her acceptance speech – after being handed the award by Dutch actrices Georgina Verbaan and Miryanna van Reeden – Edine Russel, Editor-in-Chief of ELLE Netherlands, said:

“Our magazines do not wish to promote wearing fur to the public and therefore exclude the presence of fur from all our articles. We further aim to minimise the presence of fur in the advertisements featured in our magazines.”
